About

Born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario.  After growing up in the suburban quiet, Carl moved to Ottawa in 1995 to pursue studies in Philosophy and Art.
He graduated from University of Ottawa with a B.F.A. 2000 having studied Sculpture, Painting and Drawing.  To celebrate his graduation he set off on a 7 month journey through Asia and India during which time he did many drawings and some painting and collage work.  Upon his return to Canada he moved to La Belle Province of Québec, where he settled in Montréal.  In Montréal he returned to painting, and then discovered printmaking.  Etching (copper and zinc-plate) became his central artistic practice for several years, during this time painting and collage practices continued.  Another sojourn in 2007-2008 took him acroos Canada, down both coasts of the USA, and back to South-east Asia and India.  A couple of months in North-Central Europe bookended that trip which saw the re-emergence of an almost daily collage practice, complemented by much drawing and photography.  His return to Montréal saw the development of larger scale collage work, and digital blow-ups of small scale travel collages, along with a renewed printmaking practice focussed this time on relief block work.  A recent return to oil painting and a developing interest in stop-motion collage animation promise interesting times ahead…
